Musical Tangents With Attitude
Skewlines is a 4-piece acoustic ensemble based on Vancouver Island. We collectively play fiddles, mandolin, octave mandolin, cittern, tenor banjo, guitars, Uilleann (Irish) bagpipes, flutes, various drums, and sing with 2-, 3- and 4-part harmonies.
“Skew lines are lines or line segments that do not intersect as they are not in the same plane (geometry).” This could refer to the lines of the instruments as we play or the lines our brains take when we think of tunes and songs or just the fact that we are different people who bring a rich background of music as we compose and draw from many sources.
Our inspiration is traditional Irish songs and tunes. Always mindful of this foundation, we love to create new and exciting arrangements of familiar melodies. With three composers in the group, we also offer the fruits of our own creative imagination.
